Robert Sadowski, MSc., SEAC member from the beginnings, passed away at February, 16th. Robert was 62 years old. He left his son, around 20 years old, and his ex-wife.
Robert was one of the astronomers who after finishing his University studies became interested in the history of astronomy. In recent years he was deeply involved in the study of ancient Arabian and Iranian astronomies. A collaborator of Professor Andrzej Wiercinski, and Mariusz Ziolkowski, he got involved in the studies of Andean calendars. He was also one of pioneers of archaeoastronomy in Poland. With Eligia Gassowska he examined astronomical alignment at Dobrzeszowska Mt. in the Holy Cross Mountains in south-central Poland, with Mariusz Ziolkowski he researched astronomical alignments at Odry, in northern Poland.
In early 1990s Robert participated in a project launched by Stanislaw Iwaniszewski aimed at the study of the TRB long barrows in the Cuiavia region in central-western Poland.
In his last 20 years he translated several books from Russian and English popularizing archaeoastronomy (the books by Ed Krupp), history of astronomy, cosmology and archaeology.
We will miss him.
